The School Fight Song
For when we’re on the field of battle
Then for our colors we will fight;
the Orange and Black will always stand
for what we know is right.
Then may you wave on high your banner,
And may your spirit never die;
And give a rousing "Rah, Rah, Rah!"
For Old El Paso High.
The Alma Mater
“The Orange and Black”
(1st verse)
By the silvery sands of the Rio Grande,
the Orange and Black Floats High;
She’s a grand old rag, the fairest flag,
that floats in the Western sky.
For loyalty, for courage true,
for love she’ll never lack,
while the Tigers strong and the Tigers brave
defend the Orange and Black
(2nd verse)
Fair is her name. bright is her fame,
In defeat she’s never bowed;
Hers is the right, hers is the might,
The Orange and Black so proud.
Shestand for strength, for honor stands,
On high may she ever wave
In the Western sky for El Paso High
The sturdy old colors so brave (chorus)
For when we're on the field of battle
Then for our colors we will fight;
The Orange and Black will always stand
For what we know is right.
Then may you wave on high your banner,
And may your spirit never die;
And give a rousing "Rah, Rah, Rah!:
For old EL PASO HIGH.
The El Paso High School Creed
I believe in El Paso High School as a government of the students; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the students; a sovereign school, of many sovereign schools; a perfect school, one and inseparable; established… upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my school to live it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
The Original Alma Mater
El Paso High School all hail to thee Thy name forever a guiding light shall be. Strong as thy mountains, our love will never fail. To the Alma Mater Hail, Hail, Hail.
Traditions of EPHS
EPHS TRADITIONS
The Battle of the Claw
Since 1930, EPHS has been playing Austin High School. However, the Battle of the Claw didn’t begin until the early 60’s when Judy Haddad promised the student body that she would buy a traveling trophy to share with the Panthers if she won the student body election for President. Ms. Haddad won the election and the tradition of the Claw was started.
Graduation in R.R. Jones Stadium
EPHS is still the only school in the EPISD that holds graduation on its campus inside the majestic R.R. Jones Stadium. The tradition was taken away in the 70’s, however it was brought back in 1991 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee. We have to thank a couple of people for that: first: Principal and Tiger Alum Luis Cortez for allowing the graduation to happen and second: former custodian Mario Reyes. Mario agreed to set up two ceremonies in case of rain.
Eve of the ‘E’
One of the great traditions of the Lady on the Hill is this homecoming event. The history of the E dates back to the early 20’s when freshmen class would climb the mountain to whitewash the E. Over time, they began to light it with firepots for Homecoming. However, as time passed and that became dangerous, the E was lit inside R.R. Jones Stadium with luminaries to continue the glorious tradition. The E is now lit every Thursday night before Homecoming.
Band out of the Tunnel
There is nothing quite like a Friday night football game inside R.R. Jones Stadium and nothing beats the entrance of the Tiger Pride Band from the EPHS band room tunnel. Listening to the cadence, one can picture the band always in single file and always in step, marching into one of the great venues in the country.
Spring Fiesta
Did you know that EPHS’ big spring party started in 1947. We have been crowning a Spring Fiesta Queen ever since.
